Calculate right here

Everyday planning calculators.

Open a calculator, enter your numbers and press Calculate. Starting values are examples. These estimates help with planning; use equipment specifications and site conditions for the final design.

Daily appliance energybattery · built-in calculator

Use actual running hours for cycling equipment. Add individual appliance results to build a daily load budget.

Energy = watts × hours × quantity ÷ 1,000.
Battery capacity estimatebattery · built-in calculator

Nameplate storage estimate. Add inverter idle use and other losses to your loads; also check battery power and surge limits.

Nameplate kWh = daily AC kWh × days ÷ usable fraction ÷ inverter efficiency.
Battery runtimebattery · built-in calculator

Steady-load estimate without solar charging. Available capacity means energy you can discharge now, after your reserve. Include inverter idle use in the load estimate.

Hours = battery kWh × available fraction × efficiency × 1,000 ÷ watts.
Daily solar productionsolar · built-in calculator

Example assumptions, not a site forecast. Enter seasonal peak sun hours; check PVWatts for a more detailed production model.

Daily kWh = array kW × peak sun hours × remaining-energy fraction.
Array size estimatesolar · built-in calculator

Energy-balance estimate. It excludes extra recovery capacity after cloudy weather and does not check inverter or controller limits.

Array kW = daily energy ÷ peak sun hours ÷ remaining-energy fraction.
Roof rain catchmentrain · built-in calculator

Use the roof’s horizontal footprint, not its sloped surface. Result covers the rainfall period you enter and is before tank overflow. Allow for first flush and collection losses.

US gallons = roof sq ft × rainfall inches × 0.6233766 × efficiency.
Round tank volumerain · built-in calculator

For a straight-sided vertical cylindrical tank. Enter water depth for current volume or usable fill depth for capacity. Freeboard and dead storage reduce usable water.

US gallons = π × (diameter ÷ 2)² × water depth × 7.4805195.
Water reserve durationrain · built-in calculator

No-rain reserve estimate at a constant daily usage. Exclude water below the pump intake from usable volume.

Days = usable gallons ÷ gallons used per day.
Pump run time & energyrain · built-in calculator

Use flow at your operating head, not unrestricted flow. This estimates running energy, not motor-start surge or required inverter size.

Hours = gallons ÷ flow ÷ 60; kWh = hours × input watts ÷ 1,000.
Battery Ah to kWhelectrical · built-in calculator

Nominal stored energy before usable-capacity limits and losses. Use the battery’s stated nominal voltage.

kWh = nominal volts × amp-hours ÷ 1,000.
Pump head & delivery pressurerain · built-in calculator

For an open tank pumping uphill to an outlet. Include the lowest expected water level. Enter friction losses from a pipe-loss calculation at your design flow; horizontal distance is not vertical lift. Pressurized source systems need a separate calculation.

Total head (ft) = vertical lift + required psi × 2.31 + friction head.
Pump hydraulic & electrical powerrain · built-in calculator

Planning estimate using combined pump and motor efficiency. Confirm the manufacturer’s curve and rated electrical input at your operating point. Motor startup, inverter surge and suction limits are not calculated.

Hydraulic watts = flow × head × 0.18836; electrical watts = hydraulic watts ÷ overall efficiency.
Rain needed to refill a tankrain · built-in calculator

Rainfall depth required before household consumption during the storm. Collection efficiency includes roof and first-flush losses. This is not a rainfall forecast.

Rain inches = gallons needed ÷ roof area ÷ 0.6233766 ÷ collection efficiency.
Monthly catchment water balancerain · built-in calculator

Collection minus consumption for the entered month, before tank overflow. A positive balance does not prove adequate storage: dry spells and storm timing still matter.

Net US gallons = area × rain × 0.6233766 × efficiency − daily usage × days.
